John Leslie Reade (AKA The Favorite), 71, of Las Vegas, NV and formerly of Monticello crossed the rainbow into his eternal life on October 18, 2023, at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas after a brief illness.
John was the oldest child of Leslie Harry and Joan (Hein) Reade. He was born at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello on March 30, 1952. John (AKA Hatch) graduated with the Class of 1970, and enrolled in Upper Iowa University. John and three of his friends left for Las Vegas in 1972, and he finished his education at UNLV.
Being away from home, he needed to find a job. He went to the Dean’s office to see if they could help him find employment. They asked, “Do you know Wayne Newton?”, his response was yes, he sang Bessie the Heifer on the Lucy Show. He got the job!!! John moved to Wayne’s ranch while he finished college. His claim to fame was picking up several famous people at the airport and getting family and friends out to Wayne’s home.
John started his career and went into the casino business. He worked at many places throughout his 45 years. He retired as a floor supervisor at the Mirage.
He was a devoted Christian and always carried his Bible when he traveled. He also loved the Dallas Cowboys and music.
He is survived by three sisters: Jan (Bob) Null, Julie (Tom) Dunne and Jill Cheney; nephews and niece: Jerry (Mel) Pasker, Matt (Kelly) Pasker, and Sarah Pasker; great nieces and nephews: Gary, Brendan, Cameron, Dax, Rowan, Emmie and Ian Pasker, Jaret (Jaden) Pealer, Jacie (Damien) Pealer, and his aunt, Mary Jo Reade.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Rex Cheney and Gary Pasker.
The family would like to thank the ICU team at Mountain View Hospital, and to his friends, Connie and Tom, who unselfishly took his family in to be with John, and sharing the numerous memories and reflect on a life well lived.
Fly high to our “Favorite Brother”. We love you. Give Mom and Dad a big hug on the other side of the rainbow until we meet again.
