Obituary of Rosemary Rahe

DYERSVILLE, IOWA

 

Rosemary M. Rahe, 95 from Dyersville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at The Glenn Assisted Living Center, Minnetonka, Minnesota.

 

Due to current Covid regulations, a private family vigil will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. Rosemary was born January 26, 1925 in Farley, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Olive (Schaul) Hermsen.  She married Anthony Rahe on February 3, 1948 in Farley, Iowa.  Together they farmed east of Dyersville until retiring in 1990. 

 

Rosemary and Tony raised 6 children and Rosemary was active in 4-H with her children, community events, and church activities. Rosemary was an active partner in working on their Century Farm. She worked by Tony’s side in the spring planting and the fall harvest. Rosemary was an amazing gardener as her large raspberry patch was enjoyed by many. She was a loyal and active member in her church community. Her faith was a pillar of her life. Rosemary and Tony sent all their children to Catholic schools and encouraged them to pursue a career of their choice, with all 6 children earning college degrees. She was known as a great cook and her grandchildren especially enjoyed her cookies, fresh bread, and desserts. Rosemary was a symbol of love and joy.

 

Survivors include her children: Carol (Jim) Schuetz of Plymouth, MN, Don (Jeanne) Rahe of Edina, MN, Elaine (Mark) Bottelson of West Des Moines, IA, Sharon (Michael) Cassidy of Maple Grove, MN, Mark (Gayle) Rahe of Littleton, CO, and Linda (David) Walters of Bayport, MN; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren with 3 more great grandchildren arriving in 2021; siblings: Alvin (Doris) Hermsen, Dennis (Nancy) Hermsen; in-laws: Inez Hermsen, Theresa Hermsen; and Aunt Marie Sigwarth.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tony in 2010, siblings and their spouses: Elmer (Eileen Rahe) Hermsen, Jerry (Betty) Hermsen; 4 siblings: Francis Hermsen, Clarence Hermsen, Charles and Theresa in infancy; in-laws and their spouses: Gerald (Agnes) Rahe, Leo (Marie) Rahe, Delores (Ambrose) Krapfl, Gilbert (Florabelle) Rahe, LeRoy (Wilma) Rahe, Evelyn (Art) Pape.   

 

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at The Glenn in Minnetonka, Minnesota, as well as Grace Hospice for their care and compassion.

 

Memorials can be made to Beckman Catholic High School or St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
