Obituary of Duane U. Ferguson
MONTICELLO, IOWA
Duane Udel Ferguson, 86, of Monticello, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020, at his home.
Plans for a memorial service have been postponed due to Covid-19 exposure.
Duane was born April 16, 1934, the son of Dewey and Zula (Tally) Ferguson. He married Maria Jo Hall in South Bend, Indiana. He later married Rose Marie Stump on August 8th, 1979 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Duane pastored churches in Kansas, Indiana, and Iowa. He retired from the United Methodist Church in 1999. His last pastorate was The United Church of Monticello.
During his ministry many of the churches experienced building programs in which he contributed much in the way of his own vision and labor. He was also known for his “children’s object lessons (including sleight of hand)” and “chalk art drawing messages”.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie; a sister, Carolyn Ritchie; Children: Russell Ferguson & wife Carolyn Wathen, Janice Ferguson & husband John Moon, LeeAnn Ferguson & husband Shane Rost, Dena Ferguson & husband Eli Rivera, Paul Ferguson & wife Shauna Starr, LauraBeth Ferguson & David Newton; grandchildren: Naomi Fiddes, Rachael Johnson, Joseph Ferguson, Bill Moon, Jala Nation, Jodi Ford, Jami Silva, Joshua VanDerPol, Sarah Ashman, Luke VanDerPol, Leah Clark, Angie VanDerPol, Stephanie Kluver, Sheri Brown, Trista Burden, Jacob Ferguson, Tye Ferguson, Austin Marler, Ava Ferguson, Nicholas Byers, Zachary Byers; great grandchildren: Mia Fiddes, Marian Fiddes, Madelyn Fiddes, Isaac Fiddes, Mercy Fiddes, Selah Johnson, Eden Johnson, Shepherd Johnson, Shiloh Johnson, Clay Johnson, Wesley Ferguson, Emily Ferguson, Lily Ferguson, Jackson Moon, Jacey Moon, Audrey Scout Nation, Conner Watkins, Eva Jayne Watkins, Gabe Silva, Nathan Illian, Slater Lamb, JJ Clark, Elizabeth Clark, Hunter Clark, Everett Ashman, Owen Ashman, Autumn Kluver, Willow Kluver, Maddison Brown, Wyatt Brown, Hazel Burden, Myla Ferguson, Beau Ferguson.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his bother Jack Ferguson and his sister Mary Hughes. Also preceding him were 2 grandchildren: Stacy Jo DeJong, and Ben VanDerPol.
