Obituary of Catherine Eileen Engelken
Catherine E. Engelken, 88 of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019, peacefully at home.
Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00-9:00 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Petersburg, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Ralph Davis will officiate with Rev. Richard Gaul concelebrating.
Catherine was born November 26, 1930 in Dyersville, the daughter of Lawrence and Amanda (Gaul) Lansing. She married Hugo Engelken on April 29, 1953 in Dyersville. Catherine was a devoted mother and wife. She worked at Butt’s Florist and then Piekenbrock Sewing Factory for 14 years as well as cleaning the Petersburg church. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, crocheting and spending time with her family. Catherine was often referred to as a saint by those who knew her. She offered daily prayers and rosaries for her family and those in need.
Survivors include her husband, Hugo, children: Robert (Carol) Engelken of Center Point, Richard (Rhonda) Engelken of Greensburg, KS, Roger Engelken of Dyersville, Rose (Herb) Greider of Dauphin, PA, Gerri Schlotfeldt of Marion, Mary Sleichter of Iowa City, Susan (Eric) Peterson of Lake City, IA, Joan (Vince) Castle of Visalia, CA, Shirley (Kent) Wilson of Marion, Paul (Susan) Engelken of Woodward, IA, Carl (Debbie) Engelken of Warrens, WI, 20 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, siblings: Jerome (Mary Margaret) Lansing and John (Rita) Lansing all of Dyersville, Verna Rose (LeRoy) Bries of Guttenberg, William (Joan) Lansing of Worthington, in-laws: Bernice Lansing of Dyersville, Leon (Betty) Mullis of LaPorte City, Rita Engelken of Cedar Falls, Dan (Dee) Engelken of Seminole, FL, Marty (Joyce) Engelken of Orange City, FL and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-laws, Randy Schlotfeldt, Randy Sleichter, grandson, BJ Engelken, siblings: Wilma Mullis, Joe (Ruth) Lansing, Art Lansing, Fr. Augustine Dreiling OSB, in-laws: Elva Engelken, Arlene (Ed) Baker
