Valeria was born January 27, 1915, in Rickardsville, Iowa the daughter of Casper and Mary (Meyer) Konrardy. She married Alfred Hillebrand on May 4, 1938, in Placid, Iowa. She worked as a nutritionist and head cook at Mercy Hospital in Dyersville for 18 years, and after her retirement, she volunteered for 11 years with Miriam Eick’s Toys for Needy project.
Valeria lived life engaging in her favorite hobbies of baking cookies and crocheting afghan’s for family and friends. While watching the cardinals and hummingbirds treat themselves to eating seeds from her numerous bird feeders, she would indulge in a piece or two of chocolate. When time permitted, you would find Valeria working in the garden giving all her plants and flowers tender-loving care. Valeria loved to play euchre day or night at family gatherings. Crocheting and giving away her afghan’s will be Valeria’s legacy. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
