Howard K. Bruggemann, 83, of Dubuque, and formerly of Dyersville died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Luther Manor in Dubuque.
Friends may call from 3 - 7 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home at 750 12th Ave SW, Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. and an American Legion Post 137 service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home, Monday day prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Howard was born September 28, 1931, in Edgewood, Iowa the son of Florian and Henrietta (Roling) Bruggemann. He married Theresa O'Connor on December 12, 1959, in Clinton, Iowa. Howard served in the US Army during the Korean War on the 38th Parallel. He was a member of the Dyersville Fire Dept. from 1959-1984, Dyersville American Legion Post 137, Dyersville Sportsman's Club and St. Francis Xavier Parish.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Theresa, four daughters: Patricia (James) Doran of Sartell, MN, Barb (Earl) Burkle and Ellen (Dan) Becker , both of Waverly and Kate Lacy of Dubuque, nine grandchildren: Jesse (Kristin) Burkle and Janel (fiancé Joe Whaley) Burkle, Rachel Givens, Allie (Lucas) Boyle, Jamie & Tim Becker, Kayli & Macade Lacy and Nevie Lacy-Olson; 3 step grandchildren: Amanda and Christopher Doran and Laura Case; seven great grandchildren: Joy, Jaylin, Jacey and Karley Burkle, Evelynn and Brielle Boyle, Addalynn Becker, and one sister, Lila Niday of Dyersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Henrietta Bruggemann, step father, John Sternhagen, a sister, Jean (Leverne) Platz, and brother-in-law, Frank Niday.
