I have so many stories of my Grandpa, but the thing that I most remember is his love for others. It was always very clear that he cared for those around him. You could always tell he cared so much about his family. I enjoyed my vacation stays visiting my Grandparents on my summer breaks from school as a child, he was always willing to fix up an old scooter or bicycle for me to play around with. His priority was always helping others. He was always busy working on somethig, usually a project for someone close to him. He also enjoyed laughter in his life, whether it be an old story from his youth to make everyone at the table laugh or joined around the TV watching the Red Green Show, or the Jay Leno show. He had a great sense of humor. I miss him so much, I cherish the times I got to spend with him.

As a child, every summer break from school I was able to spend a one week vacation with my grandparents in Dyersville. I often remember my grandpa being in the basement, or out in the garage working away on a project. I rarely remember him working on a project for himself, he was always working on projects that would somehow benefit those close to him. Whether it be working on fixing up an old bicycle that I wanted to ride, or building something out of wood that would benefit someone other than himself, he always seemed to be working on something to help someone else that he cared about. If you asked him if he would fix something or work on something, he would never hesitate, he enjoyed helping others. I also remember many times eating nutty bars with him, both him and I really enjoyed nutty bars, which was a treat that I often did not get at home. At the end of these nights of my vacation time spent with them, we would usually huddle around the TV, either watching a movie that we rented earlier that day, or watching the Red Green Show, which was a show he very much enjoyed. He always was up for a good laugh. I will miss him so much...his sense of humor, his stories he would tell, his love for those around him.. I could go on and on. I am so lucky to have had such a caring and loving Grandpa.

I have never heard a bad word uttered about Howard Bruggemann. He was always kind to his daughters, wife, and grandchildren.

One of the first times I picked up Barb for a date, Howard had a picnic table upside down in the back yard hand sanding the runners with sandpaper. Bewildered I ask him what he was up to. He stated he was putting the table away for the season. I watch as he put a fresh coat of black paint on the part that touch the ground, totally dismantled the boards and then hung it in the garage for the winter. What I realized over the last 35 years is that he took care of the people he loved the exact same way. He was a role model for myself and my children whom we all looked up to. We will miss him dearly.
