Donald was born April 7, 1917 in Petersburg, Iowa the son of Henry J. and Antionette (Tegeler) Wessels. He married Norma Lee Dorrell on April 25, 1944, in Marceline, MO. Don is survived by his wife, Norma Lee, 7 daughters: Linda (Herman) Fuentes of Boulder, CO, Gladys Wessels and Helen (Tom) Urban, both of Dubuque, IA, Susan (Sergio) Trujillo and Lois and Lola Wessels, all of Yuma, AZ, and Sandra (Mario) Blasi of Epworth, IA; 4 sons: Dean (Jane), Samuel and Daniel Wessels, all of Dyersville, IA and Terry (Mary Ann) Wessels of Arlington, TX; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Delores Pfohl and Sr. Mary David Wessels of Dubuque, IA and LuAnn Reicher of Dyersville, IA; 1 brother, Jimmy (Emma) Wessels of Dyersville, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Frances Mary in infancy, a granddaughter, Angela Fuentes, 3 sisters: Isabelle Engelken, Marcella Krapfl and Gene Fitzgerald, and 2 brothers: Clarence and Ralph. Don served in the US Army from 1940-1946. Don was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service and drove a school bus for Western Dubuque County Community School District. He was a member of American Legion Post 137 and the Dyersville Sportsman's Club.
