Obituary of Bernard John Gaul

Bernard J. "Bernie or Benny" Gaul, 75, of Worthington and formerly of New Vienna, died Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade. Friends may call from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Friends may continue to call after 10 a.m. Wed., September 28, 2011, at Dubuque Seventh Day Adventist Church, Dubuque, where the funeral ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery. Pastor Robert Wagley will officiate assisted by Pastor Mark Luckiesh. Bernard was born on August 2, 1936, in Luxemburg, Iowa the son of Nicholas and Anna (Naber) Gaul. He married Beverly Burchette on August 20, 1966, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. Bernie worked at the Dyersville Sale Barn for forty years and was also employed at Products Unlimited in Guttenberg for 10 years. Benny was an avid amateur photographer and was keenly interested in farm machinery and tractors, especially John Deere. He liked to watch the Cubs and attended a game at Wrigley last year. Benny was a kind hearted man who will be missed. He was a member of the Tri-State Blind Society. Survivors include his son, Jim (Carrie) Gaul and their son, Tyler, of Lincoln, NE; Siblings: Rose Gansemer of Manchester, Gwen (Carl) Healey and Ruth (Darel) Hilkin, all of Dubuque, Pearl Schaefers of Guttenberg, IA, Mary Lou (Ivan) Meyers of Bellevue, NE, Julie (Clark) Bradley of Marion, IA, Les (Deb) Gaul of Ethel, MO, Karl (friend Joan), and Mark (Mary) Gaul all of Worthington, Cyril (Paula) Gaul of Schaumburg, IL, 2 sisters-in-law, Cheryl Gaul of Worthington and Carol Burchette of Peosta, IA, 2 brothers-in-law, Bert (Marge) Burchette of Austin, TX and Ray (Linda) Burchette of Houston, TX. He is also survived by a cousin, Jerome Trenkamp of Worthington, with whom Bernie lived for the last year and a half. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beverly on May 17, 2004, 2 sons: John on Oct. 25, 1988 and Jeffrey on June 21, 2001, a brother, Leon Gaul, sister-in-law, Marilyn Gaul, and brothers-in-law: Alfred Gansemer, Francis Schaefers, and Ronald Burchette. Memorials are preferred to the Tri-State Blind Society, 3333 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, IA 52002.
