Obituary of Douglas John Wernke

Douglas J. Wernke, 30, of Dyersville, Iowa died May 12, 2012, in Dyersville. Doug was born October 30, 1981 in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Robert & Janet (Middlekauff) Wernke. He graduated from Beckman High School with the class of 2001 and went on to receive an Associates Degree from Kirkwood Community College. He was currently employed at Dyersville Die Cast. Doug had a heart of gold and would help anyone with anything. He was great with his nieces and nephews, often playing transformers, legos, and generally spending time with them. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends outdoors: canoeing, camping or slow-pitch softball. Other activities included watching sports, playing poker, dominoes, or Xbox. Survivors include his parents, Bob and Janet of Dyersville, siblings: Angela (Matthew) Trenkamp of Dyersville, Brian (Kristen) of Farley, Sara (Brad) Slater of Cedar Rapids; 7 nieces and nephews: Max, Jackson, Daisy, Elizabeth, Anna, Brayden and Brynnleigh; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth (Lerch) Middlekauff; paternal grandparents: John and Odelia (Zewen) Wernke; many aunts and uncles. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
