DUBUQUE, IOWA

 

Larry J. Steffen, 62, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away Sunday September 17, 2023, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa.

 

Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville.

 

A private memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held, and burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Luxemburg.  Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.

 

Larry was born on March 9, 1961, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Anna (Freiburger) Steffen. 

As a child, he grew up in Luxemburg, Iowa with his eight siblings. As a member of a large family, he shared close bonds with Ann, Karle, Pam, Bev, Barb, Betty, and Judy.

 

On August 2, 1980, Larry entered into a loving marriage with the woman who would become the love of his life, LuAnn. They shared 43 wonderful years together, filled with adventure, laughter, and cherished moments. Larry was a devoted father who worked tirelessly to provide for his children, Jason (Ardeth), Adam (Jesse), Joseph (Kathleen), and Allison (Kaiden). Together, they shared the joy of traveling to various destinations, camping, and attending sporting events. He was a grandpa to Alonna, Drake, Kaden, Skyla, Lela, Margo, and Greyson. His children and grandchildren were a very important part of his life. He was also a godfather to Andrea, Austin, and Dusty. He had many other nieces and nephews, as well.

 

His career was a testament to his versatility and determination. Larry embarked on a professional journey in farming and sales. He culminated his career as the co-owner and Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Eagle Point Solar. Larry was not only a successful businessman but also an advocate for solar energy. He served as the President of the Iowa Solar Energy Trade Association (ISETA), leaving a lasting impression in the field.

 

Beyond his professional pursuits, he was an avid supporter of sports, with a deep love for the Hawkeyes, Vikings, and Twins. He also enjoyed NASCAR, music, movies, playing cards, and the outdoors. Larry leaves behind a passion for life that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. May he rest in peace, knowing that his love and legacy will forever live on in our hearts.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, LuAnn;  children: Jason (Ardeth) Steffen of Iowa Falls, IA, Adam (Jesse Smith) Steffen of Waterloo, IA, Joseph (Kathleen) Steffen of Ankeny, IA, and Allison (Kaiden) Kuntz of North Liberty, IA;  grandchildren: Drake, Kaden, Skyla, Lela, and Margo Steffen, Greyson Kuntz, and one on the way;  siblings: Annie (Mike) Maiers of Holy Cross, Pam (Gary) Wessels of Dyersville, Bev (Ron) Ploessl of North Buena Vista, IA, Barbara (Steve) O’Brien of Dubuque, Betty (Mark) Brimeyer of Balltown, IA, and Judy (Nate) Smith of Waukee, IA;

in-laws: Marv and Gerrie Roling,Vickie (Jeff) Theis, Scott Roling and Jessica Helle.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grand daughter, Alonna Steffen, 2 brothers: Joey & Karle Steffen.
