Obituary of Alice Eileen Bockenstedt

Alice E. Bockenstedt, 88, of New Vienna died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville. Friends may call from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Alice was born January 6, 1924, on the farm in Petersburg, Iowa the daughter of Thomas and Agatha (Bohnenkamp) Bockenstedt. She worked on the farm with her parents most of her life, and also at Kerper's General Store candling eggs in the produce department. She was an active member of the New Vienna Historical Society for which she won the Governors Award for Volunteerism in 1994. She was also a member of the New Vienna Senior Citizens and she bowled in league for many years with Kerper's Produce team. She is survived by a sister, Grace (John) Kirsch of Dyersville, a brother, Laverne "Toby" (Dula) Bockenstedt of Colesburg, and two sisters-in-law, Alice M. Bockenstedt of New Vienna and Virgene Bockenstedt of Dyersville; 21 nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond, and many great nieces and nephews. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Clarence in 2005, Martin in 2003 and Eugene in 1952, and her godchild nephew, Paul Bockenstedt. Memorials are preferred to Oak Crest Manor in appreciation for the wonderful care given to Alice. Thanks also to Hospice of Dubuque for caring for Alice these last two years.
