Obituary of Dorothy Catherine Lahey

Dorothy C. Lahey, 85, of Dyersville died Friday, October 8, 2010, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where an American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of America Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a parish scripture service will be held at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Robert Gross will officiate. Dorothy was born October 14, 1924, in Rickardsville, Iowa the daughter of Michael and Johanna "Jenny" (Merkes) Meyer. She married William "Butch" Lahey on March 30, 1948, in Rickardsville, Iowa. She was a member of the American Legion Post 137 Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Rose. Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Surviving are 3 children: Janet "Jan" Driscoll of Cedar Rapids and Donna "Tootie" Lahey, both of Cedar Rapids, and William "Rousty" Lahey of Dyersville; 3 grandchildren: Julie (Troy) Haren, Kevin Driscoll and Jamie (Jeremy) Johnson; 4 great grandchildren: Tyler and Justin Haren and Paige and Jordyn Johnson; 1 brother, Raymond (Carmen) Meyer of Biloxi, MS, and a sister, Luella Tekippe of Dubuque, a 3 sisters-in-law, Katie Meyer of Farley, Babe Lahey of Dubuque, Lois Elliot of Genoa, WI, and 1 brother-in-law, and Mark Lahey of Epworth. She is preceded in death by her husband, Butch, in 1977, 2 sisters: Carmelita Link and Virginia Gaul, and 3 brothers: Celestine, Clarence and Aloysius Meyer, and numerous brothers-and sisters-in-law.
