Obituary of Carlene Gravel

Carlene M. Gravel, 60, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, Iowa. Carlene was born April 7, 1952, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Dolores (Boge) Gravel. She graduated from Aquin High School in Cascade with the Class of 1970 and continued on to Capri School of Cosmetology. She worked in various manufacturing roles in the area. She was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Choir and the Resurrection Choir, a ministry she greatly enjoyed. She enjoyed a good joke, playing Bingo and cards. She was especially fond of her many nieces and nephews, with whom she enjoyed spending time. Survivors include her siblings: Lois (Larry) Manternach of Cascade, Celeste (Loras) Heims of Dundee, Alan (Lois) Gravel of Cascade, Mary Jane (Pete) Kurt of Bernard; her aunt, Eileen Pins of Dyersville, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Wayne Manternach. The family would like to thank the staff at Shady Rest Care Center for making Carlene feel at home these last weeks and to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kristina, for making her so comfortable these last few days. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a vigil service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Neil Manternach will officiate with Rev. Dennis Quint concelebrating.
