Obituary of Marjorie Mae Mohr

Marjorie M. Mohr, 96, of Sterling, IL and formerly of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010, at her granddaughters home surrounded by her family praying and singing Christmas carols. Survivors include her children: Merrill "Bud" Mohr of Como, IL, Shirley (Harland) Thillen of Rockford, IL, Beverly White of Kansas City, MO, Kay (Joe) Gansemer of Dubuque, IA, and Mary Murphy of Benton, AR; 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren (with another on the way) and 7 great-great grandchildren (with another on the way); sisters-in-law: Ethel Gibbs of Edgewood, IA, Lenore Mohr of Stillman Valley, IL, She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, 3 siblings: Dorothy and Donald in infancy, and Gail (Earl) Elsbury; a son-in-law, Ernie Murphy, and a daughter-in-law: Ruth Wessel-Mohr-Osenberg. Marjorie was born on August 30, 1914, in Dundee, Iowa, the daughter of J.B. "Ben" and Madge (Smith) Nelson. She married Joseph Leonard Mohr on September 11, 1930, in Lamont, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 27, 1982. Marjorie worked as a clerk for LaVerne's Style Shop in Dyersville for 28 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Catholic Daughter's of America and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Hawkeye fan who loved to travel, read do volunteer work and make beautiful quilts for her family. This beautiful lady was a delight and inspiration to all who met her. Friends may call from 3 - 8 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a CD of A rosary will be held at 4 pm and a parish scripture service will be held at 5:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Gross. Memorials may be directed to the James Kennedy Library Children's Department and the Gaffney Hospice of Sterling, IL.
