MONTICELLO, IOWA
Arnold J. Turnis, 78, of Monticello, Iowa died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a sudden illness.
Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa where a vigil service will be held at 3:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Friends may continue to call after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello where a Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Baldwin. The Monticello Drill Team will accord military honors.
Arnie was born on April 26, 1935, on the family farm near Sand Springs, Iowa, the son of George and Eva (Kramer) Turnis. He married Marcella Podhajsky on November 9, 1957, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. He was a lifelong farmer near Sand Springs.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, Marcella, seven children: Mike (Tanya) Turnis of Edgerton, WI, Pam (Greg) Dalhoff of Verona, WI, Steve (Janet) Turnis of Monticello, Linda (Tom) Gansemer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Pat (Carolyn) Turnis of Hopkinton, Karen (Tom) Brokaw III of Monticello and Doug (Michelle) Turnis of Hopkinton; 18 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild due early next year; 2 brothers: John Turnis of Manchester and Clarence (Cheryl) Turnis of Elkhart Lake, WI, and 1 sister, Georgene (Bud) McGovern of Epworth; in-laws, Rosie Heims-Turnis of Marion, Barb (Jim) Goebel of Masonville, Richard Podhajsky of Vinton and Edith Podhajsky of Marshalltown; several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Bob (Betty) Turnis and Adrian(Mary Lou) Turnis, an infant sister, Mary and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Turnis, brothers-in-law: Louis Podhajsky, Jr. and Lester Podhajsky.
He will be forever loved and missed.
