DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Donna J. McGuire, 85, of Dyersville died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at home in the Ellen Kennedy Living Center.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish vigil will be held at 4:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.
Donna was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Dyersville the daughter of Greg and Betty (Osterhaus) Tauke. She graduated from Xavier High School with the class of 1945, and spent a year at Mt. Mercy College. On June 12, 1948, she married Robert J. McGurie at St. Francis Xavier Basilica. Together they farmed in the Holy Cross area for 23 years. They moved to Dyersville where Donna worked for Mercy Hospital for 5 years. They owned and operated McGuire's IOCO for 13 years, meanwhile she owned the Bridal Gallery for 5 years. They retired in 1986 from the station, but Donna kept active at Konrardy Florist for 15 years and at MAC's Fashion for 3 years. Bob preceded her in death in April this year.
Her hobies included spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visiting with family and friends, going on trips with the Ellen Kennedy friends, reading, and Wii Bowling League.
Survivors include her 4 children: Rory (Mary) of Central City, IA, Cathy McGuire of Marion, IA, Peggy (Dan) Bockenstedt of Evansville, WI, Ann (Charlie) Huberty of Dyersville, 6 grandchildren; Josh (Nicky) McGuire, Emily (Nate) Haan, Libby (Phil) Rodrigues, Jake and Kellie Huberty and Taylor Bockenstedt; 5 great-grandchildren; Tyler, Jenna and Grady McGuire, Kayleigh and MaKenzie Haan; brothers and sister: Dave (Alice) Tauke, Marv (Leona) Tauke and Marge Torrance, all of Dyersville, a brother-in-law: Joe Benzer of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, her husband, a son, Jim on Oct. 7, 1984, her brother Jim Tauke, a brother-in-law, Tom Torrance, sisters-in-law: Arlene Tauke, Joan Tauke, and Dorothy Benzer, 2 nephews Steve and Jeff Tauke, and a niece Beth Overman.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Ellen Kennedy Living Center and Hospice of Dubuque.
