DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Marie F. Their, 90, of Dyersville passed peacefully from this earth on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sun. Sept. 8, 2013, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 5:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O'Connor will officiate.
Marie was born Oct. 29, 1922 in Meyer, Iowa, the daughter of John and Theresa (Stelken) Fruth. She married James B. Thier on Feb. 6, 1945 in Colesburg, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised a large family near Dyersville until 1979 when they retired. After lovingly fulfilling her role as wife and mother, Marie became an active member of the Dyersville community, having served on the Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at Oak Crest Manor, was a member of the Dyersville Area Historical Society and volunteer at the Dyer-Botsford House, was a member of the Friends of the Library and the Catholic Daughters of America. The opportunity to serve, and meet and work with so many different people further enriched her life.
Survivors include her children: Marjorie (Jack) Murray of Peoria, IL, Rose Ann (Dennis) Gassmann of Dubuque, Paul (Jane) Thier of Dyersville, Mary Germaine Parra of Vienna, VA, Tim (Lynn) Thier of Trego, MT, Loras (Wendy) Thier of Bayfield, WI, Wayne (Elaine) Thier of Farley, IA, Lynne (partner Renee Vandemore) Thier of Duluth, MN, Ed Thier of Moorhead, MN, Jennifer (Ed) Suarez of Golden Valley, MN; a son-in-law, Jay Norman of Colorado Springs, CO; 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Hogan of Luxemburg, 2 sisters-in-law, Kay Thier and Delores Thier, both of Dyersville
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Glenda Norman, a grandson, Brad Thier, 2 sisters, Gertrude Fruth in infancy and Rosella "Sally" Pasker, a brother, Anthony Fruth, many brothers and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Ellen Kennedy Living Center and Oak Crest Manor for their kind and compassionate care over these past five years.
