John "Jack" B. Habel, 61, of North Buena Vista, Iowa died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, in Dubuque of natural causes.
Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where an American Legion service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. Monday at the hall in North Buena Vista.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Marvin Bries will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137.
Jack was born December 31, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Bennett and Kathleen "Kay" (Hefel) Habel. He graduated from Leo High School in Holy Cross with the class of 1970, and served in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, returning in 1972. Jack married Mary Frances Clemen and together they raised 5 beautiful children on a farm near Buena Vista. He was a member of the American Legion Post 137.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors near "Buenie", especially the river, cruising on his tractors visiting people and playing with his granddaughters.
Survivors include his children: Kelli Habel of North Liberty, Kim (Jacob) Breitbach of Holy Cross, Kristine Habel and Ann Marie Habel, both of Guttenberg; his parents, Bennett and Kay Habel of North Buena Vista; 2 granddaughters: Kayla & Madalyn Breitbach; two sisters: Cheryl Urbalejo of Guttenberg and Debra (Ronald) Koetz of North Buena Vista.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy in 1999, one brother, Randy Habel in 1972.
