May he rest in peace. May the family be consoled in the loss knowing heaven's gain - that they now have an intercessor in heaven.

Dad, as you watch over us always, I will never forget the lessons you taught me in how to live my life with Faith, Integrity, Love and Compassion while always striving to be my best and to be forever open to showing others how to live their lives as you taught us, through the examples I set as I live my life ever day. I love you and miss you, but also know you are with me always!

My condolences to Mrs. Ross who I vaguely remember and to Mr. Ross' children whom I never met. Mr. Ross was the first lay coach at Visitation High School in Stacyville. We had only fall and spring baseball prior to his arrival. He was the first basketball coach to a group of high school students, some of whom had never seen a basketball game. The first two weeks of basketball practice were spent during calisthenics which we had never done before. Although we won only five games, Coach Ross instilled in us that hard work will pay off as it did in the following spring baseball season. I thank him for the hard work ethic which helped me in a very successful career. I know that you will miss him greatly as a husband, father and grandfather, but you can be assured that one person whom you do not know always had a great admiration for him.

It was shocking to read of Bud's passing. I was sure he would outlive me. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I know how he will be missed by so many. I worked for him at Insurance Assoc. in Monticello. I know how dedicated he was to his family and especially Jane. May God be with all of you during this time. Know that he is now wrapped in the arms of our Lord and will have no more pain or suffering.

Recently I was sorting through old photos and came across a family photo of the Ross family, Jane,Bud and all the kids. Then today I saw Bud's obituary in the paper, and it brought back so many memories, as I spent many hours within your family as a "domestic helper". It started with Marilyn, then Barbara, and then me. I especially remember the wonderful trips to Clear Lake filled with sunning, swimming, and being very patiently taught to ski by bud, and counting heads, always counting little heads. You are a wonderful family. Thank you for letting me be a part of it. Margaret(Meg)Beckman Walker

We are sorry to hear of Bud's passing. Bud's enthusiasm to make the world a better place is being continued in his grandson, David Goodner, who is an activist for all that makes the world a better place. David is a friend and co-worker in Des Moines at Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement. Bud has left a legacy of community improvement throughout his life for which you all can be rightly proud. A giant has completed his work here. Blessings on you all.

The Schlueter children will always remember the Ross family as the paragon of living well, with their boisterous good humor, love of music, earnest competitiveness, uncommon kindness, colorful differences, and downright unnatural talent for, well, everything,. And quietly presiding over it all was Uncle Bud, the gentlest man I ever knew, who patiently taught me to water ski from behind a row boat. He was truly a great man. Requiem in pacem. May he rest with the angels!

So I see this guy at the Dubuque YMCA all the time. One day, he comes up and says "Keep up the good work on that Dubuque School Board." We chat over time and I learn his name is Bud Ross and he helped establish the WD district. Seems like a good enough guy, and every time he sees me he's so nice and very encouraging. The punch line is HE made ME feel like the big shot. Today I read the obituary and was BLOWN AWAY. What a class act. Here, this guy had a professional and public resume longer than my arm and HE'S always telling ME what a good job I'm doing. People like Bud are ambassadors from God. They do incredible work for the public good and light up others around them. Bud was special. He's one of those guys who you'd just like one more moment of time with so you could look into his eyes and feel his strong handshake and know that you're in the presence of a truly great man.

In your obituary and on your tombstone there is a born date, a death date, and a "dash" in between the two... The "dash", how you lived your life is the most important part... Bud lived his dash amazingly well!!! He's with you even more now...feel his love as you go through this hard time. I feel like he and your family have been in my life as long as I can remember and I have so many wonderful memories of him and all of you... He will be missed, but heaven gained an incredible angel today! All my love and sympathy to each of you Jane and family, Jenni <3

To my dear friend, Amy: You know that my prayers have been with you and your entire family through these many months. As the reality of your Dad's passing starts to sink in, know that he is with you even more so now, each and every day. Take time to find a quiet place and feel his love surround you as you grieve for his loss from this world, you know he has been born into eternal life. What a wonderful obituary, it was truly a fitting tribute to a man who lived a good life, taught by example, and has certainly left the world a better place not only for his life's work, but also for the good that has been accomplished by his children. Being blessed with grandchildren and even great-grandchildren, we know that the Ross legacy will continue to make a difference in the world for many years to come! While I didn't know your Dad personally, I felt like I knew him, through your stories and comments about his life. So thank you for sharing all his wonderful stories. I know there are more of them to share and I look forward to giving you the opportunity to talk about your Dad with me anytime! With my love and continued prayers through these difficult days, Terry Wessels
