Dad farmed all his life. He bought his first farm South of Petersburg and farmed there until semi-retiring and moving to his acreage in Delaware. Even there he raised a small head of cattle and baled hay. He continued this until he was 81. His passion was farming. He loved being on the tractor doing field work. He was like a little kid when Spring came and planting season rolled around. He enjoyed raising cattle starting with bottle feeding to market. Years ago he also enjoyed fishing, playing cards with neighbors, and playing softball with his kids, friends, and with the men in Petersburg. He enjoyed raising rat terrier puppies, attending farm sales and going to the sales barn. Survivors include his seven children: Rita (Lawrence “Poncho”) Lewin and Ruth (Harley) Lewin, both of Manchester, Dan (June) Putz of Dyersville, Richard (Shirley) Putz of Earlville, Nancy (special friend Terry Mohr) of Delhi, Julie (Norm) Voelker of Ryan and James (Jodi) Putz of Lacona. Also ten grandchildren: Sherry (Mark) Williams; Adam (Rachel) Lewin, Jesse (Traci) Lewin; Chris (Amy) Putz, Briget (Billy) Tibbott, Brent and Brock Putz; and Lori, Michelle and Carrie Voelker; nine great-grandchildren. Also one sister Verna Mae (Donald) Lueck of Cascade; two brothers: David (Delores) Putz of Greeley and Jerome “Jerry” (Judy) Putz of East Dubuque, IL; two sisters-in-law Agnes Putz of Dyersville and Grace Putz of Manchester; and many other relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters: Pearl (Alvin) Gaul and Alice Putz (5 years old); and two brothers: Walter Putz and Fred (Fritz) Putz. He married Estella Hahn September 18,1951, but they divorced in 1975. She survives, also. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.kramerfuneral.com <http://www.kramerfuneral.com>.
