NEWFANE, NEW YORK Earl G. Lohnes, 85, of Newfane, New York died suddenly Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville, Iowa. He and his wife were here in Dyersville attending the National Farm Toy Show. Earl was born June 6, 1927 in Beverly, Massachusetts, the son of Frederick and Ethel (Fox) Lohnes. The family returned to Nova Scotia during the depresion where he lived for many years before coming to the Niagara Falls area. He married Jean Ann Smith in 1961. Earl and Jean lived near Newfane, New York for 50 years. He worked at Autolite in Niagara Falls and then worked as an Ironworker under Buffalo Local 6 and Niagara Falls Local 9 until he retired. Along with his wife they became involved in the collectible toy business about 25 years ago, traveling to shows all over the eastern United States. Survivors include his wife, Jean, a son, Shawn of Naperville, IL, 2 grandchildren: Rachael & Kyle Lohnes of Naperville, IL, 2 sisters: Irene Hutt of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Janet King of Milton, Ontario and sister-in-law, JoeAnn Lohnes of Roswell, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Eric, 2 brothers: Frederick and Ralph Lohnes and 2 brothers-in-law: George Hutt and William King.
