Wayne A. Recker, 80, of Dyersville, Iowa died Monday, October 29, 2012, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, Iowa after a brief illness.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and American Legion Post 137 will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 7 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Wayne was born December 22, 1931, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Rose (Bildstein) Recker. He served in the US Army from 1952 - 1954. He married Joann C. Clemen on Sept. 18, 1956, in Luxemburg, Iowa. Together they farmed southwest of Dyersville. Joann preceded him in death on July 18, 1972. He moved to Dyersville in 2000.
Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post 137. He loved riding his motorcycle, bowling, playing cards and going to the local family restaurant to visit with his breakfast buddies.
Survivors include his children: Al (special friend Kim Schnittjer) Recker of Dyersville, Sherry (Andy) Berger of Colesburg and Ann (John White) Recker of Earlville; a special friend, Martha Huber of Delhi; 6 grandchildren: Brandi and Allison Recker, Josh and Tim Amling, Derek and Jordan Bahls, 3great grandchildren: Dallas, Dillon and Braxton; 5 brothers and sisters: Jeanette (Tom) Bell, Bill (Kay) Recker, Vernon (Mary Ellen) Recker and James (Jane) Recker, all of Dyersville, and Rose Ann (Sidney) Smith of Grand Rapids, MI; 5 brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Doris (Len) LeConte of Dubuque, Herb (Mary Ann) Clemen of Dyersville, Dennis (Valerie) Clemen of Madison, WI, Ken (Jan) Clemen and Ron (Diane) Clemen, both of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
