MONTICELLO, IOWA
Rosemary M. Devaney, 85, of Monticello, IA, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center.
Friends called from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 14, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish vigil was held at 7:30 p.m. Friends continued to call after 10:00 a.m. Monday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Keith Birch officiated and Rev. Herbert Tegeler concelebrated.
Rosemary was born June 10, 1927, the daughter of Laurence and Teresa (Takes) Decker in Bernard, IA. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Garryowen, IA in 1945. She attended Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque, IA, where she received her RN degree in 1948. She worked at the John McDonald Hospital in Monticello for 30 years and also at the Anamosa Care Center. Rosemary was united in marriage to Robert Devaney on February 13, 1954, at St. Patrick's Church in Garryowen.
Rosemary enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her faith and family were most important to her. She also enjoyed music, sewing, painting, and quilting.
Survivors include her husband Robert, 8 children: Beth (Darnell) Porter and Patrick Devaney (Kathy Adams), both of Monticello, John Devaney of Delhi, Karen (Terry) Solomon of Manchester, Tom Devaney (Barb Siefker) of Anamosa, Mike (Doris) Devaney and Diane (Matt) Lund, both of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Holly) Devaney of Marion; 18 grandchildren: Julie (Matt) Lux of Cascade, Chris Porter of Monticello, Scott Porter of Iowa City, Sage (Andy) Miller of Altoona, Dustin Wilson and Michaela Devaney, both of Monticello, Amanda and Ryan Solomon, both of Manchester, Ben (Ashley) Devaney of Davenport, Jordan Devaney of Los Angeles, CA, Carly, Jenna and Paige Jennings, all of Austin, TX, Kassidy Devaney and Vanessa Lund, both of Cedar Rapids, Colin and Haley Gorgen and Tara Devaney, all of Marion; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Betty Johnson, Jean McClain and Sally (Jim) Hoerner, all of Dubuque, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary Paula; 6 siblings: Leo Hirtz, Loretta McCarthy, Veronica Gross, Mary Catherine Connolly, Earl Decker and Imelda McDermott.
