Obituary of Elizabeth Kurt

Survivors include one daughter, Deb (Doug) Gudenkauf and one son, Kevin (Mary Lou) Kurt both of Dyersville, IA; five grandchildren: Kurt Gudenkauf of Dyersville and Carmen (friend Tony Fagan) of Cascade, Ben, Ellen and Sara Kurt, all of Dyersville, IA; In-laws: Germaine Bechen and Charles (Kit) Kurt of Cascade, IA, Lois Donovon, Rita Martin, Earl (Louetta) Kurt, Tom (Rita) Kurt, Pete (Mary Jane) Kurt, all of Bernard, IA, Sr. Mary Kurt of Oelwein, IA, Sr. Bernice Kurt of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jane (Lloyd) Steffen of Dubuque, IA; and her cat, Morris. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dorrance on April 4, 1995, a granddaughter, Michelle Catherine Kurt, on February 17, 1992, and a brother-in-law, Henry Kurt. Betty was born on July 30, 1932 in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Gilford "Gilly" and Elizabeth (Beitzel) Gibbs. She graduated from Xavier High School in 1950. She married Dorrance J. Kurt on September 11, 1954 in St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa. Betty worked at the Dubuque Packing Company, Dyersville Sales Barn, and was an Avon Representative for 38 years and was still actively selling Avon. She was chairman of voting elections in Dyersville for many years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Betty Club in Dubuque. She also was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and the Ellen Kennedy Center. Betty enjoyed collecting cookbooks, feeding and watching the birds from her kitchen window, going to "the boat", playing cards at the Palace, and her Friday night Solo Club. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.
