Obituary of Eugene Goebel

Gene was born January 20, 1914 in Luxemburg, Iowa the son of Ernest H. and Catherine (Steffen)Goebel. Gene was a cowboy in Texas for three years before he married where he learned this prayer: "Thank the Lord for the sun, the moon, the stars and the earth we live on, for the women that give us children and the elders that teach them." He married Helen Klaus on August 25, 1936 in New Vienna, Iowa. Helen preceded Gene in death on May 13, 2001. They farmed in the Luxemburg area all of their lives together. Gene was a 55-year member of the Farm Bureau. He loved working on equipment and enjoyed hunting and fishing. As a young man, he was a Golden Glove Boxer. Surviving are 4 sons: Jack of Colesburg, Ernie George (Georgia) of Dubuque, Joseph (Mary) of Guttenberg and Robert of Fairfax, IA; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. 4 sisters, Othilda Scherman and Virginette (Loras) Hosch both of Dubuque, Helen Hatch of Lancaster, WI, Louise (Arthur) Ries of New Vienna, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. 3 brothers, Raymond, Leander and Larry Goebel and 2 sisters Irene Block and Martha Lechtenberg. Parish Scripture Service will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home.
