Dick was born November 1, 1922, in Worthington, IA the son of George and Alma (Streit) Tobin. He graduated from St. Paul's School in Worthington, Class of 1941, and attended Loras College. He was employed at Collins Radio as a Lab Tech, worked with the Worthington Oil Company and with Texaco Oil Company in Cascade and with John Deere, retiring in 1976 after 20 years. He also managed the Worthington Memorial Hall for many years. Dick married Clara Mae Weber Hess in St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington on October 27, 1977. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and its Altar & Rosary Society, the Worthington Senior Citizens and Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP). He received the Governor's Volunteer Award from Governor Branstad. He is survived by his wife, Clara Mae Weber Hess Tobin; his children: Sharon (Dr. Ernest) Goeres of Morgantown, WV, Donna (William J.) Dolney of Sarasota, FL, Rick (Laurence) Tobin of San Francisco, CA and Cindy (Gary) Rufsvold of Minneapolis, MN; their mother Kathleen George Tobin of Minneapolis, MN; step-children: Michael Hess and Pat (Dianne) Hess, both of Worthington, IA, LuAnn Hess-Mullen (friend Pat Putz) of Dyersville, IA, and Kenneth (Wendy) Hess of Prairie du Chien, WI; grandchildren: Eric Goeres of San Francisco, CA, Jason Goeres of Elkins, WV, Ryan Goeres of St. Paul, MN, Bill (Kathy) Dolny and their children, Emily, Billy & Bobby of Ft. Worth, TX, Scott Dolney of Boston, MA, Sara Dolny of Minneapolis, MN, Allison Rufsvold of Minneapolis, MN and Sullivan Lee Tobin of SanFrancisco, CA; step-grandchildren: David Hess of Phoenix, AZ, Casey Hess of Dyersville, IA, Jennifer Hess of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kurt (Angie) Mullen and son, Spencer, and Joe (Libby) Mullen and children, Logan & Allison, all of Manchester, IA, Joshua Hess of Dyersville, Abby Hess of Cedar Falls, IA, Brad, Jason, Nicole "Nikki" Hess, J.R. and Chris, all of Prairie du Chien, WI; 2 sisters: Janice "Sis" Holscher of Waterloo, IA and Georgene Pettinger of Worthington, IA. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Kevin Goeres, and a brother, Merle Tobin.
