John L. White, 92, of Heritage Manor in Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Dyersville, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Heritage Manor after a brief illness. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2005, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005, St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Jerry Kopacek. John was born on February 19, 1912 in Worthington, Iowa, the son of Lawrence T. and Kathryn (Turnis) White. He married Velma Slauson on November 15, 1937 in Sandsprings, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Worthington area, moving to Dyersville in 1968. He enjoyed playing cards with his neighbors, playing golf, gardening and going on outings with his family. He particularly enjoyed the annual Father's Day picnic. He also enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona. Survivors include two sons: Roy J. (Linda) of Earlville, IA and Kevin (Karen) of Dubuque, IA; two daughters: Linda (Glenn) Recker and Sylvia White both of Dubuque, IA; 8 grandchildren: Kelly (Ken) Schuyler, Kim (Bill) Rolfes, Jody (Sam) Recker, Jill (Ryan) Gardere, Jason (Amanda) Recker, Sara (Justin) Wiese, Julie (fiancé, Curt Schultz) White and Brian White; 7 great-grandchildren: Nikki White, Adam Rolfes, Danielle and Sydney Schuyler, Nicholas, Madison and Olivia Recker; two sisters: Kathryn Turnis of Cascade, IA, Grace McDonough of Monticello, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marcella White and Mae Gudenkauf of Dyersville, IA, Louis (Marie) Stevens of Oelwein, IA, Joyce Tenley of Anamosa, IA, Louis (Juanita) Slauson of Manchester, IA, Don (Mary) Slauson of Seattle, WA and Jane Slauson of Webster City, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, on August 30, 1987; his parents, a brother, George White, a sister Mary Turnis and her husband Ray; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Cyril Turnis, Don McDonough, Duane Slauson and Harry Slauson, Joe Gudenkauf, Grace and Louis Gudenkauf, and Russell Tenley.
