Survivors include three children: Louis (Carol) of Dubuque, IA, Barbara (Roger) Kueter of Cedar Falls, IA and Lyal (Melita) of Rickardsville, IA; 12 grandchildren: MaryBeth (Mick) Fleming, Louis Steven Pfeiler (Fiance Lenee), Kelly (Bill)Flege, Sarah (Pat) Tierney, Dan (Diana) Kueter, Julie (Dan) Neebel, Joe (Kathy) Pfeiler, Janet (Rodney) Hess, Jim (Mary) Pfeiler, John (Lori) Pfeiler, Jolene (Paul) Decker, and Joyce (Tom) Pasker; 31 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Francis Brecht of Holy Cross, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aloysius, February 3, 1990; her brothers: Peter, George, John, Leo, Nick, Aloysius and Victor Brecht; sisters: Katie Gassmann, Lena Liddiard, Emma Ungs, Marie Jaeger and Harriet Davidshofer. Mrs. Pfeiler was born November 16, 1907 in Holy Cross, Iowa, the daughter of Philip and Barbara (Rausch) Brecht. She married Aloysius M. Pfeiler February 22, 1933 in Dubuque. Lorraine was a homemaker and farmed for many years with her husband on the family farm near Holy Cross. She was an active member of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau Women's Group, the Dubuque County Fair Board, and one of the organizers of the Rural Women's Food Stand at the County Fair. Lorraine and Al were longtime activists in Dubuque County Democratic Party politics, serving numerous terms on the Dubuque County Democratic Central Committee. She was the first 4-H Leader (1943) of the Holy Cross Home Helpers and remained a leader for many years, a volunteer at the Holy Cross School for 20 years, and was the first chairperson of the parent/teacher group of the Holy Cross Schools and first secretary-treasurer of Holy Cross/Rickardsville Senior Citizens Group. She was a member of the Holy Cross Rosary Society, ACCW, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and served on the Area on Aging Commission for Dubuque County. Lorraine's hobbies were her concern for others, gardening, baking, card playing, quilting (belonged to the Dyersville quilting group), and crocheting. She was an avid Cub's fan since 1930. Lorraine will be remembered by her family and friends as a caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family would like to thank the staff at Luther Manor for their compassion and excellent care of mother. Memorials are preferred to the RHCL Endowment Fund.
