Survivors include three daughters: Marilyn (Elmer) Hentges and Mary (Timothy) Showalter, both of Dyersville and Kathleen (Richard) Brown of Naples, FL; one son; Delbert (Barbara) McDermott of Carroll, IA; fourteen grandchildren; William and Bruce Hentges, Michael Evans, Jennifer Morris, Michael McDermott, Michelle Meyer, Meg Schoeppner, Mitch McDermott, Maureen Rupiper, Matthew and Maria McDermott, Heather Showalter, Bridget Pudi and Joshua Showalter; twenty four great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1975; four sisters: Mary Cox, Sister Mary Patricia Burns, Katherine Lyons and a sister in infancy, and two brothers, Daniel and Jerry Burns. Bertha was born on December 4, 1908 in Washington Township, Dubuque County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Fitzgibbons) Burns. She married Harold McDermott on June 25, 1934, in St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque, Iowa. She and her husband owned and operated the Model Hatchery and Feed Store in Dyersville from 1953 - 1982. Bertha enjoyed traveling and playing cards with family and friends.
