Survivors include his wife, Alice, one son, Matt Meyers of Dyersville; 2 daughters: Phyllis (Al) Wessels of Dyersville, Mary Kay (Steve) Lammers of St. Louis, MO.; 9 grandchildren: Melissa, Nicole, Cody and Conner Meyers, Kristen, Audrey and Tim Wessels, Jeremy and Matt Lammers; 2 brothers: Vincent (Helen) Meyers of Iowa City and Herbert Meyers of Pella, IA; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Meyers of Dyersville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Meyers, and sister-in-law, Jan Meyers. Lefty was born on September 1, 1925, in Earlville, Iowa, the son of Matthias and Caroline (Herzog) Meyers. He graduated from Xavier High School in 1942. He married Alice (Beckmann) on August 28, 1950, in Dyersville, Iowa. Lefty was the former Mayor of Dyersville from 1964 - 1968, a former Dubuque County Supervisor from 1969 - 1972 and from 1975 - 1978. As an inductee of the Dubuque County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988, he served on its first Board of Directors. Lefty was a part owner of Hogan Motors, and from 1970-1989, owned and operated Meyers Insurance Agency. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1734 and the Dubourg Assembly.
