Obituary of George Sudmeier

Survivors include his wife, Laura of New Vienna, 2 daughters: Georgia (Richard E.) Goebel of Dubuque, Iowa, Carol Sudmeier of Hiawatha, Iowa; 2 sons: Robert (Karen) Sudmeier of Dubuque, Iowa, Bill (Kathy) Sudmeier of Denver, CO.; one sister, Arlene Wilhelm of Manchester, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Helene Sudmeier; 9 grandchildren: Lori (Dave) Henning, Lisa (Jeff) Scott, Mike (Michelle) Sack, Jeff, Michael and Abbie Sudmeier, Lizzie, Gabriel and Lauren Sudmeier; 10 great-grandchildren; Kayvon Jafarpour, Megan and Halie Henning, Matt, Sam and Rob Ruppel, Tully and Clara Scott, Evan and Regan Sack; many nieces and nephews and a special family friend, Sr. Shari Sutherland of Hiawatha. George will be remembered for being a faithful and loving husband and father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved taking rides in the country, camping, reading, and spending time with family. He especially loved the Mississippi River Valley and fishing with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Upon the conclusion of every distant vacation, he was known to remark that he loved Northeast Iowa the best. George also loved his work, his former customers, and his coffee buddies at the V.F.W. Club. George was born on May 17, 1923 in Petersburg, Iowa, the son of John V. and Frances (Bruggemann) Sudmeier. He married Laura (Berns) on June 5, 1945 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. They resided their entire married life in New Vienna and are members of the St. Boniface Parish. George received his education at St. Peter and Paul School, Petersburg, Iowa and Coyne Electrical School, Chicago, Illinois. George and Laura owned and operated Sudmeier Electric Service from 1945 until his retirement.
