Obituary of Lester Scherbring

Lester was born March 2, 1928, in rural Petersburg the son of John H. and Josephine (Ronnebaum) Scherbing. He attended SS. Peter & Paul School in Petersburg where he earned his formal education. Lester was united in marriage with Elaine Jaeger on November 29, 1969 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Edgewood. Lester was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, where he ushered since 1959. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1734 and a Delaware County Farm Bureau Member. Lester was a lifetime resident at his present home North of Petersburg where he and Elaine farmed. He was handy at fixing a lot of things. and spent time as a carpenter and a mechanic. Lester enjoyed visiting with family and friends, reading about airplanes and their engines, working on various projects in his shop and listening to Polka music. Surviving are his wife, Elaine, three daughters: Susan (Douglas) Blocker of Oswego, IL, Debra Scherbring of Naperville, IL and Tammy (Wayne) Kirby of Lisbon, IA.; one son: Michael (Rebecca) Scherbring of Edgewood, IA; Six grandsons: Mitchell & Jacob Blocker, Austin, Izak and Owen Scherbring and Carson Kirby. One brother: Robert L. (Annamae) Scherbring of Dyersville, IA; Brothers-in-law: Joseph (Lorraine) Stephan of Dyersville, IA, George Jaeger of Cedar Rapids, IA, Loras (Rebecca) Jaeger of Ames, IA, Rev. Louis Jaeger of Marshalltown, IA, and Carl (Sharon) Jaeger of Edgewood, IA. Sisters in law: Julie (Alan) Mroch of Cedar Rapids, IA and Sandra (Tom) Klaus of Colesburg, IA. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter Scherbring, a sister Eileen Stephan and a sister-in-law, Mary Scherbring McBride. The parish scripture service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
