Surviving are 16 children: Joe Takes of Washington, IA, L.J. (Marie) Takes of Monticello, Jean Takes of Countryside, IL, Joan (Dan) Manternach, Loretta (Pat) Beckman, Mary Kay (Ron) Ackermann, all of Monticello, Carolyn (Jerry) Manternach of Anamosa, Darlene (Steve) Wilcox of Monticello, Sally (Jeff) Sawyers of Marshalltown, Tom (Mary) Takes of Cedar Rapids, Alan (Liz) Takes of Cascade, Alice (Tom) Brighton of Monticello, Carl (Jan) Takes of Anamosa, Charlie "Tuna" (Tami Husmann) Takes of Monticello, Robbie Takes of Anamosa, and Bill (Vicki) Takes of Monticello. He is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Helen Laban of Garryowen. Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife, Elda, a son, Paul, in infancy, 2 grandsons, Ted Manternach and Stevie Ray Takes, a granddaughter, Laura Beckman, and a sister, Mary Takes. Lloyd was born June 8, 1918 in McGregor, Iowa, the son of John and Katherine M. Klinkner Takes. He married Elda Otting on May 5, 1942, in North Garryowen, Iowa. Shortly thereafter he served in the U.S. Army until 1945. When he returned home, he and Elda farmed in the Cascade area until moving to Monticello in 1960. After several years of farming near Monticello, Lloyd also worked at the Monticello Feed Mill and later in general carpentry. Lloyd was an active 4-H leader for 10 years and a member of the Arthur P. O'Rourke American Legion Post 209. His interest in the Knights of Columbus as a member of Council 1821 in Monticello led him to become an Honorary Life Member, a Past Grand Knight of the Council and a Past District Deputy. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the 4th Degree Dubourg Assembly of Dubuque where he is a Past Faithful Navigator (1973). Friends may call from 2 - 9 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2005, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish scripture service will be held at 5:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. and the 4th Degree Honor Guard will stand from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2005, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Schmitt will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by the Monticello Drill Team. A Lloyd Takes Memorial Fund has been established.
