Obituary of Mary Schaetzle

Mary M. Loes was born April 21, 1921 in Dyersville, Iowa the daughter of Joseph N. and Frances (Gerken) Loes. She graduated from Xavier High School in the Class of 1938 and married LaVerne Schaetzle on February 2, 1944 in Dyersville, Iowa. She worked for General Telephone of the Midwest (GTE) as a telephone operator and later in the business office. She also worked at the Kramer Funeral Home and Plaza Theatre. Mary headed the Home Visitors Assn that distributed Baptismal Medals for 20 years, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America and was a money counter at St. Francis Xavier Parish. She loved sewing, quilting, crocheting, playing cards and visiting with friends over a beer. Surviving are her husband, LaVerne "Mish" Schaetzle, of Dyersville, 2 daughters: Lois (Ed) Pesyna of Denver, Colorado and Jane (Jim) Niehaus of New Vienna, Iowa and a son, James (Linda) Schaetzle of Dubuque; 5 grandchildren: Michelle Niehaus of Ft. Worth, TX, Tony (Angie) Niehaus of Raleigh, NC, Shawn Niehaus of Chicago, IL, Brian (Tiphanie) Schaetzle of Cedar Falls, IA and Katie Schaetzle of Dubuque, IA; 3 great grandchildren, Isaiah and Josiah Schaetzle; and Jenna Niehaus, 2 sisters, Lorraine Schuster and Clarabelle Baum, both of Dyersville. Mary was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harold and Francis Loes, and 2 sisters, Jan Vorwald and Madonna Dalton.
