Obituary of Germaine Clara Fendell

Germaine C. Fendell, 85, of Dyersville, Iowa died Wednesday, December 28, 2011, surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 3:00 p.m. and the American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of America will hold a rosary at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2012, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Germaine was born on January 29, 1926, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Teckla (Langel) Johannes. She married Ira L. Fendell on May 14, 1960, at St. John Catholic Church in Delhi, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 10, 2011. She and Ira were members of St. Francis Xavier Parish all of their married lives. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, sewing, cooking and reading. She loved to go on car trips with her family to enjoy the countryside. Germaine's first job was at the Peakenbrock Sewing Factory. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who also helped Ira operate their Lifetime Farm Products distributorship. Germaine was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include a son, Randy Fendell (friend Wendy ElHussien) and daughter, Renee Fendell (friend Dave Gibbs) all of Dyersville; sister-in-law: Arlene Johannes, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Arthur Johannes, sister and brother-in-law, Rita (Emil) Boge, her parents-in-law, Albert and Mary "Maime" Fendell, and a brother-in-law, John Fendell. The family would like to thank the staff at Shady Rest Care Center and Above and Beyond Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care we received.
