Rodney is survived by his wife, Jayne Richardson-Assink of Lake Delhi, Iowa, 2 daughters: Aimee Assink and Nicole (Jerrad) Tausz, both of Kansas City, Kan.; 5 grandchildren: Raegan Tausz, Addison and Jack Weldon, Malerie and Sydnie Reitzler; 3 step-daughters: Abby Kisling and Anne (Scott) Reitzler, both of Dyersville, IA and AJ Weldon of Iowa City, Iowa; his step-mother, Rosemary Assink of Corwith, Iowa; 3 brothers, Ronald (Mina) Assink of Modesto, Cal., David Assink of Burnsville, Minn., and Gary (Teri) Assink of Madison, Wis. and Aimee and Nicole's mother, Patricia Kirstein of Clarion, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vivian and a brother, Duane. Rodney was born May 10, 1949 in Mason City, Iowa the son of George and Vivian (Oxley) Assink. He was raised in Kanawha, Iowa and graduated from Kanawha High School in the class of 1967. He enlisted in the Army on October 31, 1969 and was deployed as a communications specialist in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on December 15, 1972. He settled back in the Kanawha area in 1978 where he farmed with his dad and began his career with Broshar John Deere Implement. On June 21, 2002 he married Jayne Richardson in Webster City, Iowa and moved to Lake Delhi, Iowa in 2004. Together they opened the Blue Wing Teal Framing Gallery in Dyersville. He enjoyed car shows, boating, flying, golfing and playing with his grandchildren. A gathering will commence at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2006 at the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha, Iowa where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville is assisting with arrangements. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Rod's name to the American Cancer Society.
