She is survived by 2 sons: Gene, Jr. and Ronald (Jane) Picray, both of Monticello; 3 daughters: Judy (Duane) Sternhagen of Hopkinton, Iowa, Connie (Jerry) Breitbach of Cascade, Iowa and Marlene (Dan) Moats of Monticello, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Josephine (Bud Mayfield) Behne of Oxford Junction, Iowa, 1 brother, Joseph (Lorna) Ruley of Oxford Junction, Iowa and a sister-in-law, Nadine Ruley of Oxford Junction, Iowa. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, on August 15, 1997, her son, Gerald John, a brother, John Ruley, a daughter-in-law, Peg Picray and a great granddaughter, Amy Jean Sisson. Dorothy was born July 16, 1921 in rural Oxford Junction, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Maruna) Ruley. On July 7, 1942 she married Eugene M. Picray in Ventura, Calif. Together they farmed in the Monticello area until retirement in 1994. Dorothy has been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and of its Guild. Her life in the later years revolved around her grandchildren and great grandchildren, often babysitting or just spending time playing cards or dominos. She was an avid Bingo player who also enjoyed cooking for her family, friends and neighbors. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2006 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where a parish scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2006, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Schmitt will officiate. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
