Obituary of Evelyn Palma Greenawald

She is survived by 3 daughters: Janet (John) Andreesen of Anamosa, Iowa, Carol (James) Hosch of Maquoketa, Iowa and Sheri K. Greenawald of San Francisco, Calif., 2 sons: Tom (Mary Jane) Greenawald of West DesMoines, Iowa and Dave Greenawald of Apple Valley, Minn., 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, a sister, Barbara Bergeson of Waukon, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, a granddaughter, Jayne Ann Andreesen, a great granddaughter, Jayne Lee Andreesen, a sister, Helen Hanson and a brother, Truman Quandahl. Evelyn was born April 11, 1911 the daughter of Jacob P. and Thea (Selness) Quandahl. She married Lawrence D. Greenawald on September 28, 1932 in Corydon, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1983. She attended rural schools in Allamakee County and graduated from Spring Grove, MN high school, then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. Evelyn graduated Magna Cum Laude from the State University of Iowa in 1932. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi honorary science fraternity. She earned her masters degree in science education from the U of I in 1959. She taught at Newton, Dayton, Ohio, Morley and Monticello. Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2006 at the United Church of Monticello. Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate. Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, Iowa. Memorials are preferred to the United Church of Monticello, the Greenawald Rotary Music Scholarship, or the American Diabetes Association.
