Survivors include his children: Timothy, Wyoming, IA; Kathleen, Scottsdale, AZ; Kevin, Longmont, CO; Nelly (Randy) Bodeen, Mason City, IA; Michael (Gloria), Dyersville, IA; Patrick, Cedar Rapids, IA; Maryellen Carr, Charles City, IA; Christopher (Brenda), Marion, IA; 27 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren (2nd grandchild, Philomenia, born 7:10 pm the day Leo J died) and brother Kenneth (Fran), Walnut Creek, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve in 1977, granddaughters Kelly and Heather in 1989 and a sister, Helen Montague. Leo J. was born July 3, 1914 to John and Rose (Morgan) Kelly in New Albin, IA. After graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Creamery Management, Leo served in the Navy during WWII from March 1942 to December 1945. He married Genevieve Drew on December 4, 1943 and together they had 8 children. In addition to managing creameries, Leo owned the bowling alley in New Hampton, IA from 1950-1957. After selling the bowling alley in 1957, he managed the Nashua, IA creamery from 1957-1977, moving his family to Charles City in 1958. Subsequent to the closing of the Nashua Creamery in 1977, Leo worked in sales management for Farm-a-Con. During retirement, he worked at All-States and then at his sons' company, Circle Computer Resources, Cedar Rapids, as chief cook and bottle washer until spring 2005. Leo J's first love was Genevieve, his wife, and children; his second was the Green Bay Packers. Leo J would like to be remembered as one of the "Last of the Old Time Buttermakers".
