Mr. Goedken was born August 3, 1938 in Worthington, Iowa, the son of Val and Clara (Krogman) Goedken. He married Marlene Knepper on April 25, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Farley area. Survivors include his wife Marlene, 4 children: Terry (Jan) Goedken of Dyersville, Julia Goedken of Worthington, Kim (Doug) Marsh and Gary (Sara) Goedken, both of Dyersville, 6 grandchildren: Corey (fiancé Margo Koerperich) and Emily Goedken, Leha Pettinger (special friend Jared Ruble), Blake Marsh and Tyler and Elizabeth Goedken. 5 sisters; Verna Mae (Gerald) Hoefer of Manchester, Iowa, Margie (Robert) Schaul of Masonville, Betty (Arnold) Greif of Central City, Iowa, Darlene (Joe) Fangmann of New Vienna, Iowa and Bonnie McManus of Mission, Kan., 3 brothers; Edward (Kay) Goedken of Bernard, Iowa, Charles (Patricia) Goedken, of Dyersville, Iowa and Don Goedken of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a brother-in-law, Tom (Janaan) Knepper of Dubuque, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Knepper of Welcome, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Val and Clara, parents-in-law, Lawrence and Darlene Knepper, a sister and brother-in-law, Clara "Toots" and Fred Davidshofer, and a brother-in-law, Ed Knepper. Walter liked to spend time with his grandchildren, playing cards, golfing, watching sports, trapping, gardening, and a good conversation at the sales barn or feed store. He was a member of the Worthington Sportsman Club and Farm Bureau. When he was younger he enjoyed pitching for various softball teams and coaching Little League.
