Survivors include his wife, Betty, his children: Deanne (Dave) Tobin and Denise (Jim) Ostwinkle both of Worthington, IA, Rick (Nancy) Olsem of Peosta, IA, Deb (Dan) Ament of Dyersville, IA, Judy (Mark) Goetschius of Mount Vernon, IA, David (Becky) Olsem of Robins, IA, Daniel (Lisa) Olsem of South Elgin, IL, and Jeff (Kate Weber) Olsem of Cedar Rapids, IA, his step-children: Charles (Elizabeth) Hubbard of Denver, CO, Kahnie (Ron Hartman) Jaeger of Wyoming, IA, and Susan Still of Kenosha, WI, 23 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Laurita Combs of Monticello, IA, and Irene (Fred) Hoeger of Holy Cross, IA, 2 brothers: Arnold (Virginia) Olsem of Dyersville, IA and Elmer (Wilma) Olsem of Colesburg, IA, and 4 brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Anna, his first wife Betty in 1978, a sister, Mildred Petsche and 1 sister-in-law. Marv was born on May 8, 1930 in Colesburg, Iowa, the son of August and Anna (Harter) Olsem. He graduated from Colesburg High School in 1948. Marv served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, stationed in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He married Betty Oberbroeckling on May 28, 1956 in New Vienna, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1978. Marv later married Betty Hubbard on June 19, 1982 in Monticello, Iowa. He farmed east of Worthington until his retirement in 1986. Marv was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed camping and socializing. He was a 50 year member of American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 2 - 9 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2007, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 4:30 p.m. the Worthington Volunteer Fire Department will gather at 6 p.m. and an American Legion Service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday March 13, 2007, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Loecke. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137.
