Survivors include her children, Bill (Kathy) Beckmann of Waterloo, IA and Dianne (Don) Kramer of Dyersville, 3 grandchildren: Alyssa of Chicago, Il, Erin of Minniapolis, MN, and Jeff of Waterloo, and one brother, Eldrew (Leona) Niehaus of Dyersville. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Paul. Valeria was born on June 25, 1921 in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Camilla "Millie" (Jasper) Niehaus. She married Paul Arthur Beckmann on April 26, 1943 in Dyersville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1976. Valeria attended country schools in the Dyersville area and continued a love of learning all her life. In her late teens, she moved to Los Angeles, CA. where she proudly supported the WWII efforts as a "Rosie the Riveter" at the McDonald - Douglas Aircraft factory and enjoyed several special years in California with many other Dyersville young people. In 1943, Valeria and Paul returned to Dyersville where they married and began their life together. For four years she was employed by the Xavier Parish at the convent and later worked at Beckman High School in the cafeteria for two years. Valeria had a special affection for the "simple pleasures" of life. She enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, cooking and canning. Her home and her family were her joys. Valeria was very content sitting on her front porch swing and chatting with her many kind and helpful neighbors. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children, their spouses, and her three grandchildren.
