Survivors include her husband, Olan, her son, Alan J. (Nancy) of San Antonio, TX, one grandson, Brian (Misty) Tegeler of San Antonio, TX, a great-granddaughter, Madyson Tegeler, 2 brothers: Ernest (Anne) Burger of Cascade and Gerald (Ruth) Burger of Dubuque, a sister-in-law, Mildred Burger of Masonville, IA., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Alvin Burger. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers. Verla was born on April 13, 1920 in Worthington, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and LaVena (Stoll) Burger. She married Olan F. Tegeler on November 13, 1945 in Worthington, Iowa. After graduating from St. Paul High School in 1937, Verla enrolled into the University of Dubuque to obtain her Teaching Credits. She completed the course at age seventeen and received her Teaching Certificate at age eighteen. Verla then taught seventh and eighth grade at Holy Rosary Catholic School in Lamott and continued for nine years in the rural schools of Delaware County. She later accepted a position at the State Bank of Worthington in August 1962 until her retirement in 1991 when she and her husband Olan sold the Bank. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday April 19, 2007, at St. Paul Catholic Church, in Worthington, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Loecke.
