Obituary of Timothy Meier

Please share a memory of Timothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Krista of Cedar Rapids, Michael of Cedar Rapids, and Robert of Tanzania, Africa, his father, Robert (Linda) Meier of Cuyahoga Falls, OH., his mother, Roxann (Daniel) Moyer of Marshalltown, one step-brother, Austin Kness (fiancée Ingrid Keller) of Bloomington, IN, one sister, Anne Meier of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and his grandmother, Pearl Meier, of Dyersville, IA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Victor Meier, of Dyersville, and Arthur K. and Dorothy Oxenfield, both of Cedar Rapids. Tim worked as a software engineer for MCI (Cedar Rapids), IBM (Rochester, MN) and ACT (Iowa City). While working for IBM, Tim decided to become a doctor and taught himself the prerequisites for a pre-med curriculum at Iowa State University. Tim graduated from ISU in 2004 with a Biophysics degree. He received the American Institute of Chemist's Award as ISU's top senior student in Biophysics and Biochemistry. Tim was then accepted into the University of Iowa's medical program in 2004. Tim traveled to Tanzania with other pre-medical students to do volunteer work at medical clinics and poor villages. His dream was to return to Tanzania some day as a doctor to give medical treatment to the desperate and impoverished people. He learned to speak Swahili fluently, for that purpose. Tim will be sadly missed by many. He was such an inspiration and source of light.
