He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Dyersville, 1 daughter, Nancy (Jim) Stock of Dubuque, 4 sons: Pat (Nancy) Gaul of Worthington, Tom (Kate) of Dubuque, Dave of Dyersville, and Dan of Covington, Louisiana; 1 sister, Rose Marie Dunkel of Dyersville; 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; 2 God-children: Sue Friedman and Bonnie Bass; 1 brother-in-law: Ambrose Langel and 4 sisters-in-law: Marc Steger, Leona Niehaus, Helen Krogman and Alma Loesche. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Clara Gable, his daughter, Jane Marie (age 22), 2 brothers; Leo (Virginia) and Clarence (killed in WWII); 2 sisters: Annie (Frank) Loecke and Lucille (George) Graham, 1 brother-in-law, Bernard Dunkel, and 1 God-child, Mike Dunkel. John was born November 11, 1927 in Worthington, Iowa the son of Peter and Angela (Oberbroeckling) Gaul. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1945. On October 2, 1950 he married Evelyn Langel at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. John and Evelyn farmed in the Worthington area for 35 years and retired for several years in Tucson, AZ and returning to Dyersville because of illness. John enjoyed his family and eleven grandchildren and his great granddaughter. Several special friends were a great part of his life. John Aloysius Gaul, a resident of Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade for the past three years, and formerly of Worthington, Iowa died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque after a brief illness. Friends may call from 2 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where an Altar & Rosary Society Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and the parish scripture service will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Hertges will officiate with Deacon Fred Pins assisting. We would like to thank everyone at Shady Rest Care Center for the wonderful and compassionate care we received over the past three years.
