Surviving are her 4 children, Joyce (Red) Hughes, Chuck (Cary) McElmeel, Jerry McElmeel and Pam (Mike) Wink, all of Monticello; 7 grandchildren,: Angie (Tim) Fangman of Earlville, Shannon (Brant) McElmeel of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jason, Lucas (Diane) and Nic McElmeel, all of Monticello, Jarod McElmeel of Iowa City, IA and Josh (Kesa) Stutt of Marion, IA; 7 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Edna (Mitch) Mitchell of Apache Junction, Ariz., 2 brothers: Bob (Bernice) Like and Ken (Marlene) Like, both of Monticello She was preceded in death by her son, Billy Joe, and 3 sisters: Mary Pearson, Laura Ehlts and Selda "Sally" Prahl. Jeannie was born December 14, 1934 in Monticello, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Lillian (Ambuehl) Like. She graduated from the Monticello Schools and married Ernest McElmeel on December 27, 1955, in Monticello. To this marriage was born 5 children, although they later divorced. She worked as a waitress, mainly at what is now Darrell's Family Tradition, for most of her life. Jeannie was a NASCAR fan, especially of Dale Earnhart, Jr., and a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She had a propensity to collect many things, among them antique dishes.
