Jerome "Jerry" G. Hoeger, 67, of Dyersville, Iowa died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at his home. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a vigil service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 13, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Noah Diehm. Jerry was born on November 12, 1944, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Gregor and Theckla (Schaul) Hoeger. He married Mary Gudenkauf on February 12, 1966, in Ryan, Iowa. Together they farmed outside of Dyersville and raised their family. She preceded him in death on October 14, 1996. Jerry later married Bonnie Carlson in 1997, and she also preceded him in death in 2010. Jerry was a fun loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, dancing, fishing and talking farm. He is survived by five children: Connie (Dan) Carlson of Powder Springs, GA, Traci (Bill) Jennings of Story City, IA, Steve (Naomi) Hoeger, Terry (Rochelle) Hoeger, both of Dyersville, and Kurt (Tammy) Hoeger of Winona, MN, 19 grandchildren: Trevor and Cassidy Carlson, Elli, Abigail, and Jake Jennings, Zachary, Mariah, Evan, Derek and Gavin Hoeger, Taylor, Quentyn, Grant, Chandler, Jasmyn and Gabrielle Hoeger, Mary, Ella and James Hoeger. siblings: James (Diane) Hoeger of Acworth, GA, Rose (C.P.) Cox of Dubuque, Rita Ameskamp of Farley, Germaine (Art) Helle of Manchester, Norma Hoeger of New Berlin, WI; in-laws: Vernon (JoAnn) Gudenkauf of Masonville, Richard (Sharon) Gudenkauf of Dyersville, Kathleen (Dick) Hogan of Delhi, Lois (Omer) Fortman of Manchester, Virginia (Phil) Kelchen of Monticello, Jeanette Steffen of Peosta, Janet (Bob) Pottebaum of Manchester; many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mary, second wife Bonnie, 2 sisters and 2 brothers in infancy; in-laws: Al Ameskamp, George Pfelier and Roger Steffen. Memorials are preferred to Beckman High School and/or St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
