Obituary of Patrick R Gaul

Patrick was born June 8, 1942 on the family farm in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of George C. and Alice (Hoeger) Gaul. He married Judith Diane Rhodes on May 23, 1964 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Dubuque. Together they farmed in the Luxemburg area until retirement. Farming was Pat's life and hobby. He took great pride in his 730 Case tractor and plow that Brian and Sheri restored. He enjoyed playing cards, Fast Track games, and vacationing with his brothers, sisters and friends. Pat looked forward to the 4th of July and New Year's Eve Party's with the "Dirty Dozen", as well as going for coffee at the Four Way. Pat was part of many organizations including Liberty Township Directors, New Vienna/Luxemburg Fire Department Board of Directors, Dubuque County Farm Bureau - Liberty Township Director, Archer Oil Dealer and former county manager, Holy Trinity Church Choir Member, Former Parish Council Member, Multiple Systems Atrophy Support Group. Above all these things he was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Judy, 3 sons: Michael (Ann) of Urbandale, IA, Steven (Sue) of Dubuque and Brian T. (Sheri) of Luxemburg, a daughter: Peggy (Thomas J.) Roling of Dubuque. 11 grandchildren: Elizabeth and Ellie Gaul of Urbandale, Alex, Mitchell and Olivia Gaul of Dubuque, Austin, Amanda, Kimberly and Joey Gaul of Luxemburg, Lilly and Nathan Roling of Dubuque. 2 brothers: John Joe (Kay) Gaul of Peosta, IA and Daniel C. (Barb) Gaul of New Vienna, IA. 3 sisters: Phyllis Hildebrand of Dyersville, IA, Elaine (David) Shaw of Springville, IA and Karla (Bob) Kluesner of Farley, IA. Brothers in law: David Rhodes of Dubuque and Steve (Tavia) Rhodes of Onawa, IA and several nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; George and Alice Gaul. Father in law and Mother in law, Merton "Dusty" and Eleanor Rhodes and brothers in law, Leonard and Jerome Hildebrand. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Holy Trinity Parish Building Fund or the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Pat's family would like to thank Rev. Ray Burkle, Rev. Richard Schaefer, Rev. Dr. Ken Bickel, family and friends for their prayers and love. The family would also like to express their appreciation to the New Vienna/Luxemburg First Responders, EMTs, the Holy Cross Ambulance Crew, the staff at Mercy Hospital Dyersville, Dyersville Bi County Ambulance and Mercy Medical Center ICU, Dubuque. Due to their hard work and caring hearts, we were able to share one more day with Pat and say our final goodbyes. Parish Scripture Service will be recited at 4:00 p.m.
