Louis is survived by one daughter, Diane LeClere of Monticello; two step-sons: Richard (Lila) Covington and William Covington, both of Monticello, former son-in-law, Jim Avery of Scotch Grove; a step-daughter-in-law, Sandra Covington of Monticello;. 2 grandchildren, Shawna Avery of Monticello and Chad Avery of Scotch Grove, and 8 step-grandchildren: Michael Covington, Deb Nefler, Preston Covington, Bill Covington, Buckley Covington, Bryan Covington, Rick Covington and Laurie Chapman. 1 great grandson, Colton Rickels, and many step-great-grandchildren; 1 brother-in-law: Steve Holub of Rock Island, IL and 1 sister-in-law, Dorothy Ehrisman of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Laura, one step son, James Covington, his sister, Edna Pegorick, one step-grandson Bradley Covington, 2 brothers-in-law: Lester and Robert Holub. Louis was born May 24, 1918, in Scotch Grove Township the son of Benjamin and Augusta (Belling) Thuman. He attended country school at Johnstown School near Scotch Grove. He married Laura Holub Covington and they farmed near Scotch Grove until they were no longer able. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2005. Louis was a Golden Gloves Boxer in the Chicago Region. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, helping to establish Jones County Central Park and was one of the original members of the Scotch Grove Coonhunters. Louis B. Thuman, 89, of Cascade, Iowa and formerly of Scotch Grove died Saturday, March 29, 2007, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque after a brief illness. Graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.
